One of the factors that contributes to the impact of a literary text on the reader is the use of blended emotions in the text which is known in the literary studies as grotesque. The current research looks at the grotesque in the fictional works of Bijan Najdi and studies how these are implemented in the stories. In Bijan Najdi’s stories, grotesque can be seen in the form of grotesque titles, grotesque spaces, grotesque bodies, grotesque perception, grotesque behavior and beliefs, and grotesque sentences and collocations. Drawing on such factors as surprising and horrific elements, blending reality and imagination, and using elements of time and place in juxtaposition with blended emotions and description of disfigured bodies, he has been able to skillfully manifest grotesque in his stories. Najdi’s stories are grotesque stories of horror and hatred. With his literary and poetic style, Najdi has properly created grotesque images and spaces in his works, a factor which has contributed to the appeal of his stories.
