Ali Hatami’s Nostalgic Narration
Abstract:   (3687 Views)

Abstract

Ali Hatami is known to be one of the contemporary stylist writers and film directors of Iran. A considerable part of his success depends on stimulating the emotions and evoking a sense of nostalgia in the readers and viewers. In this descriptive and analytic study, the factors stimulating the sense of nostalgia in Ali Hatami's works are investigated. The results showed that the causes of the sense of nostalgia in his works are divided into two categories: Linguistic and non-linguistic. The most important linguistic factors include using archaic, childish, ignorantly languages, specific accents and the use of poetry, familiar boilerplates, proverbs, and rhythmic expressions. The most important nonlinguistic factors include the conscious use of the characterization, architecture, apace, mise-en-scène, make-up, music. The presence of linguistic factors in creating nostalgia has caused the reader of Ali Hatami's works to establish an intimate relationship with the text. Since Ali Hatami directed his film scripts, nonverbal factors also helped to create and intensify the feeling.  The coordination of these two factors makes his works interesting to watch.
